Your text stays yours
Nothing you paste into this site is transmitted to us, so we could not claim rights over it even if we wanted to. You retain all rights in your own text. Using a tool here grants us no licence, no ownership and no access — the processing happens on your machine and we never see the input.
Output is yours too. Word counts, readability scores, converted text and generated placeholder text can be used freely for any purpose, personal or commercial, with no attribution required.
The site is free to use
You may use the tools for personal or commercial purposes at no charge, with no account required.
Accuracy, and its limits
We take the text analysis seriously. The counting and scoring logic is covered by automated tests and follows published formulas rather than approximations. Even so, the site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
Two limits are worth stating plainly. First, word counting is convention-dependent: reasonable tools disagree about hyphenated compounds, contractions, numerals and symbols, so our count may differ slightly from your word processor's. Each tool page states the convention it uses. If a specific count matters — an academic word limit, a contractual deliverable — use the counter that the assessing party uses.
Second, readability scores are indicators, not verdicts. They were developed and validated on English prose, they measure sentence and word length rather than meaning, and they can be satisfied by text that is genuinely hard to understand. Treat them as a prompt to reread, not a certificate.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Idea Works is not liable for any loss or damage — including lost profit, lost revenue, lost data, or indirect or consequential loss — arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site, or from reliance on any result it produces. Because your text is held only in your browser, we cannot recover it if you close the tab; keep your own copy of anything that matters. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, in which case those above apply only to the extent permitted. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under consumer law.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or its hosting infrastructure;
- scrape or republish the site's written content wholesale, or present it as your own;
- use the site in a way that breaks any applicable law or interferes with anyone else's use of it.
Ordinary automated access — search engine crawling, accessibility tooling, a reasonable script — is fine and welcome.
Intellectual property
The site's written content, design, layout, code and branding are the property of The Idea Works and are protected by copyright. You may link to any page freely and quote short extracts with attribution. You may not reproduce substantial portions of the written content without permission. This applies to our text, never to yours.
Advertising and third-party links
The site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. We do not control advertisers and are not responsible for their content, products or practices. An ad is not an endorsement. See the privacy policy for how advertising cookies are handled and how to opt out.
Availability
We make no promise that the site will always be available. It may be taken down, changed, or have tools added or removed at any time without notice.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. The current version always lives at this URL with its “last updated” date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
